  • Best of their class
    • Sazh is the best synergist. While out bulking up on Crystarium Points, he leads, syn/rav/com. Most battles he finishes buffing about the time the battle is over.
    • Hope is the best medic. If you need sab/med/sen use him. The group outlasts any other combination.

  • CAUTIONS
    • When you get to Gran Pulse, "Mythral Bangles" (armour) are 15,000 gil. The Urinite to upgrade from a Gold Bangle to Mythral is 45,000 gil. There were other upgrade expenses that take it to well over 100,000 gil to upgrade. Don't over armour before you get here.
    • Don't upgrade the Collectors Catalog to a Connoisseur Catalog. Farming Eastern Tors in the Archylte Steppe offers lots of Gold Dust. The Collector Catalog increases the Gold Dust take by 50%. The Connoisseur Catalog doesn't seem to help the Gold Dust take and only increases the Scarletite take by 10%, hardly noticable. Eventually you need more of the Gold Dust.
    • You don't get a full compliment of atb bars until you get your Eidolon. Vanille's doesn't get her's until Mah'habara -- Flower-filled Fissure, shortly after Mission 19.
    • TAEJIN'S TOWER -- Missions are given by Stone Statues called Menhirrim, rather than by Cie'th Stones. You can not refight a battle until all 6 of them have been defeated, then refight as often as you wish. Some of the Menhirrim don't provide missions, they allign the levels to allow progress. If the way to a MARK is blocked, look for a Menhirrim to change alignment of the levels. There are at least three that do exactly that.
    • After Oerba, before Eden, you fight Barthandelus, the main fal'Cie. After you beat him your Crysterium expands again. This is where Vanille gets the Death Spell. Just before Fang gets her Taming Pole.
    • Lightning gets Lionheart when you get to Edan.
    • You get a fourth Accessory Slot when you win the game.
    • Mah'habara -- Abandonded Dig: there is a door you can't get through until Mission 30.
  • UPGRADING
    • Start by raising the Experience Multiplier to 3x. Use the Organic Components (bone symbol). You can pick these up after battles as "Spoils" or "Drops" or buy then at "Creature Comforts". It takes 36 of these, slightly more of the others to max out the multiplier.
      • At the start of the game only buy
        • Sturdy Bones
        • Barbed Tails
        • Vibrant Oozes
      • Later on the First Tier Organics are
        • Wonder Gel
        • Tear of Woe
        • Esoteric Oil
        • Sinister Fang
        • Ineffable Fluid
        • Ancient Bone
        • Supple Leather
        • Chocobo Tail Feather
        • Medicinal Oil
        • Mysterious Fluid
        • Monstrous Fang
        • Armored Shell
        • Transparent Ooze
        • Diabolic Tail
        • Otherworldly Bone
        • Gargantuan Claw
        • Tear of Remorse
        • Abyssal Scale
        • Smooth Hide
        • Abominable Wing
        • Fiendish Horn
        • Fragrant Oil
      • The Synthetic components (screw icon) decrease the Multiplier but have lots of Experience. There are many but some of the common ones are
        • Ultracompact Reactor 20,000 EXP
        • Particle Accelerator 2,400 EXP
        • Perfect Conductor 375 EXP
        • Bomb Cores 275 EXP
        • Superconductor 200 EXP
        • Crankshaft 107 EXP
      • Early in the game all you have access to is Crankshaft.
      • Don't waste experience on a weapon that will be maxed out in 100 XP.
    • Money components say "can be sold for a premium". Use the money to buy the other components. Credit Chips and Premium Chips are worth more in Gil than XP.
    • Catalysts icons look like rocks and upgrade weapons and accessories to another level.
    • The Weapon level caps are, depending on the weapon, about 26 for first level and about 61 for second level.
    • Accessory caps are about 10.
  • FARMING FOR SPOILS AND DROPS
    • A good place to farm for Credit and Incentive chips is on the PSICOM aerial ship, the PALAMECIA. You can go back and forth on the CREW CORRIDORS, particulary the SHORT FLIGHT DECK. If you focus you can get 25 to 30 Incentive chips an hour and about that many Credit chips.
    • In Chapter 11 on Gran Pulse, Mission 7. It's located at Yaschas Massif -- The Paddraean Archaeopolis. The Cie'th Stone and the Mark are right next to each other. You get 5 bomb cores every time and Tetradic Crowns or Tetradic Tiaras periodically. Bomb cores are lots of experience. Teradics Tiaras sell for 40,000 gil or can be dismantled into Sprint Shoes. There is a Cei'th Waystone right outside.
    • In the Eastern Tors in the north of Archylte Steppe sits 3 Adamanchelid (the smaller of the elephant sized turtles). They can be worked for Gold Dust and Scarletite. It comes very slow. I got 3 in 4 hours.
    • Mission 18 at Mah'habara -- Twilit Cavern. The Cie'th Waysone and the Mark are in the same room. You get 4 Piezoelectric Elements and he's easy. A Piezoeletric is about 1/2 a Bomb Core in experience value.
    • There is a Juggernaut in the Mah'habara -- Dusktide Grotto. He rejuvinates. His Rare Drop is a Particle Accelerator.
    • Mission 24, Taejin's Tower, 5th Tier. The Mark is in the same room. You get a Moonblossom Seed. It sells for 6,000 gil. Enter from a private elevator on the Fourth Tier.
    • Mission 25 -- Taejin's Tower -- 6 Bomb Cores -- The Cie'th Stone (statue in this case) is on the 6th level and the Mark is on the 5th. If you bypass the elevator you can skip a Tryant wi a Centaurian Blade. You have to deal with a couple Vampires and a Varcolaci but they are a lot less time consuming than the Tryant. Use the stairs in the next room from the statue. If you take on the Tryant start by buffing up with your Synergist.
    • Mission 28 -- Oerba: When you work to Mark you kill kill everything. They do not rejuvinate until you leave. Run back and fourth and get 5 bomb shells every time.
    • In Edan just before you warp to Orphan's Cradle there is a gauntlet of Sacrifices. They drop Scarletite and perfume. There is also 5 Inquisiters who drop perfume.
    • As soon as you enter Orphan's Cradle you get 7 more Sacrifices.
    • Mission 34 -- Haerii Archaeopolis -- 7 Bomb Cores -- rare drop is a Tonberry Figurine
    • Titan's Trials -- Missions 41 & 45 -- the Tonbery Figurine is 28.5k gil. 3 Moonblossom Seeds is 18k gil. That is 1/3 the 150k gil of a Platinum Ingot, guaranteed. Unfortunatly never a trapezohedron.
    • Mission 63: Defeat the Adamantortoise the first time and get a 'Genji Glove'. Each time there after get a 60,000 gil Gold Nugget. You can still get Platinum Ingots or a Trapezohedron. It's just a long way between the Mission Origin and the Mark.
  • FARMING FOR CRYSTARIUM POINTS
    • Amphisbaena are 3,500 crustarium points each. In the middle of the Archylte Steppe is a mountain with 4 Amphisbaenas and a save point next to it.
    • Paddraean Archaeopolis --- run the whole gauntlet, including Mission 7, earn 12,730 crystarium points. Mission 7 rewards 5 bomb core with a Tetradic Tiara as a rare drop. I'm deep into the game, all my characters are level 4, time, 9 minutes.
    • On the trail down to Mah'habara from the Archyite Steppe are an Behemoth and a Megistotherian locked in battle. You always get a PREEMPTIVE STRIKE so you always win. 6,600 points. There is a save station nearby.
    • Mission 30: 30,000 crystarium points and after the first time, 6 bomb cores. It's a long way so open the nearby teleport waystone. Round trip is 64k cp in 24 minutes. You get 6 bomb cores.
    • Mission 34: Tonberry --- 7,500 CP and 7 bomb cores after the first battle.
      • The battle takes between 1 1/2 and 2 minutes. Round trip add another minute. Lets pretend round trip is 3 minutes. 24 / 3 = 8. Now 8 x 7,500 = 60,000 CP in 24 minutes, plus 56 bomb cores.
      • Saz, Light, Fang --- SYN/SEN/SAB. When Syns start to repeat, RAV/RAV/COM.
  • FARMING FOR DROPS
    • You don't get a drop every time you defeat a monster. Star Ratings let you know the odds of collecting drops. Read about them at, "Star Ratings".
    • When farming for trapezohedron and platinum ingots, etc., don't use Vanille if you can help it. You get very few drops if the monster dies from her DEATH spell. You get more drops if you are strong enough to use an Eidolon to cut of the monsters legs, sab/sab/sab until you get 5 debuffs to stick, rav/rav/rav untill stagger gets to 999, then finish them with com/com/com.
  • TRAPEZOHEDRON Farming
    • Both Adamantortoise, Adamantoise & Long Gui have base drop rates or 25% fo drop a Platinum Ingot. Long Gui's base rate for a Trapezohedron is 5%. The other two it is 1%.
    • Collector and Connoisseur Catalogs do not stack. More than one of either does no good.
    • There is a 1% chance of DEATH working when Vanille casts. Each debuff placed on the Adamantortoise increases success by 1%. Each Saboteur also increase success by 1%. FAITH and Stagger each add 1%.
      • Use Vanille, Sazh and Fang. The decks are sab/syn/sab, sab/rav/sab, and sab/sab/sab. Summon her Eidolon. Hecatoncheir immediantly cuts the legs off the Adamantortoise. Auto cast deprotect, deshell and imperil. Do not Gestalt. Then start spamming DEATH. When Hecatoncheir goes away, switch to sab/syn/sab for Sazh to HASTE and FAITH on everyone. Switch to sab/rav/sab. As soon as you get STAGGER, go sab/sab/sab. Vanille is still spamming DEATH. She gets it 1/3 to 1/2 the time.
    • When Eidolons appear they automatically cut the legs out from under Oretoise. Then and only then can deprotect, deshell and imperil be cast. Death works much better then. The down side is that it takes 3 TCP and you max out at 5. In between every attempt you must go fight little guys to buff TCP.
    • You can also Eidolon, debuff until you get all four debuffs, buff until haste and enfire on all, then COM/COM/COM the hell of of her. The advantage is that once you get here it works 90% of the time.
    • Kill her before she stands up.
  • LONG GUI Trapezohedron Farming
    • https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Long_Gui_(Final_Fantasy_XIII)
    • Collector and Connoisseur Catalogs do not stack. More than one of either does no good.
    • Character Set: Fang leads, then Lightning and Sazh.
    • Deck:
      • Syn/Syn/Syn
      • Sab/Sab/Sab
      • Com/Med/Med
      • Sen/Sen/Sen
      • Rav/Rav/Rav
      • Com/Com/Com
    • Start with SEN/SEN/SEN to survive the initial Ultima. Switch to SYN/SYN/SYN and manually cast Bravera to Fang while the allies cast other useful buffs like Haste, Protect, and Shell. Change to COM/MED/MED at least once, then RAV/RAV/RAV to stagger a leg. Raise stagger over 900% then switch to COM/MED/MED. Use Highwind to kill the leg. Highwind resets Stagger to 100% if you fail.
    • Long Gui collapses when both forelegs are chopped. Shift to SYN/SYN/SYN and manually cast Bravera and Faithra on all allies so that the buffs won't run out. Switch to SAB/SAB/SAB and get 6 debuffs, then SYN/SYN/SYN to get Enfire on everyone. Go RAV/RAV/RAV until Stagger chain is 999.99%. COM/COM/COM. The first time he will get back up. Each stagger phase should remove slightly more than half of the Long Gui's maximum health.
    • Always switch to SEN/SEN/SEN when the Long Gui attacks. Otherwise Ultima and Quake will kill the party.
    • When not toppled the only debuff Long Gui is susceptible to is Slow. Late in the fight the attacks get more frequent. Slow helps here. If it's hits points are below 50% you can Summon the Eidolon and end it before he gets up again.
  • DARK MATTER Farming
    • Shaolong Guis replace Ademantortoises after completing Mission Circle 56 - 62. They drop Dark Matter with a base rate of 5%.
    • Shaolong Guis are formidable opponents regardless of your gear. Strategy:
      • Fang/Light/Vanille
      • SYN/SYN/MED
      • SAB/SAB/SAB
      • RAV/RAV/MED
      • SEN/SEN/SEN
      • COM/RAV/RAV
      • COM/COM/MED
    • Enter battle with SYN/SYN/MED. Immediately auto buff which will cast haste on you. Survive quake and manually cast BRAVERA/FAITHRA/VEIL on all 3 members. Light will have casted protect and stuff on you by now.
    • Switch to SAB paradigm and manually cast slow until it lands. The other two will spam the other stuff. Once slow has landed, assist with deshell/deprotect/imperil if they haven't already landed.
    • Go back to SYN/SYN/MED until Light casts ENFIRE on everyone. Maybe pick up some more buffs.
    • Switch to RAV/RAV/MED and proceed to attack until he staggers.
    • Go to COM/RAV/RAV until his meter reaches 999.99
    • Switch to COM/COM/MED until stagger is nearly empty and do highwind.
    • He will cast ultima while you're doing this, so get ready to switch to SEN/SEN/SEN real fast, then back to what ever
    • If you're fast enough, you'll deplete the stagger meter before he uses BAY. As soon as you see BAY, go to SEN/SEN/SEN and wait until quake is done. He always does quake after bay.
    • After quake, go back to what ever and repeat. Eventually, you should be able to finish him off before he even does BAY.

      • Lightning: Diamond Bangle Survivalist Catalog Platinum Bangle
      • Fang: Diamond Bangle Siltstone Ring Imperial Armlet *
      • Hope: Witch’s Bracelet Witch’s Bracelet
    • Mission 51: Attacus
      • Reward: 75,000 Crystogen Points and a Gengi Glove the first time. Each subsequent visit gets 75k and 10 Bomb Cores.
      • Sentinel Snow can't be hurt. He replaces damage with Mediguard faster than Attacus can dish it out. The only issue is "5 Staring" the mission.
      • Fang: party leader. use two Iron Bangles or Mythril Bangles, a Weirding Glyph and a Power Glove. These bangles give Fang the synthesized High HP: Power Surge ability. With Snow as full time Sentinel no one else should get hit.
      • Vanille: Equip with 4 Weirding Glyphs* or higher
      • Snow: Give him Black Belts* or other damage reducing accessories. Then his weakest tier 1 weapon. Strong weapons increase strength and therefore reduce the "5 Star" time limit.
      • Paradigms:
        • Syn/Sab/Sen
        • Rav/Rav/Sen
        • Com/Rav/Sen
        • Sab/Sab/Sen
        • Com/Med/Sen
      • Start out in 1 and have Fang give Haste/Faith to Vanille and herself. Hopefully Vanille will get Deprotect to stick while you are buffing but at this point it isn't that big of a deal. Deshell is not a concern. Once the team is buffed then switch to 2 and start attacking. Even though you won't stagger the mark, raising the chain guage is essential to allow Fang to do enough damage in the fight to meet the required time for the 5* rating. Keep attacking until your buffs wear off. The chain guage will be around 200 or higher at this point. Switch back to 1 and then give Haste/ Faith / Bravery Fang and Vanille. If Deprotect is not on the boss switch to 4 and get it to stick then switch to 3 and attack away. Only switch Paradigms if you need to rebuff your team or debuff the mark with Deprotect. The only buffs you really need are Haste/Faith/Bravery on the ladies. Use Paradigm 4 if you have trouble getting Deprotect to stick. If for some strange reason Fang actually takes damage, switch to 5 and heal her back up real quick so that she remains above 90% HP and has the Power Surge synthesized ability. Same same if Snow actually gets in danger of dying. This should get the boss within the time limit.
    • Missions 52: Zirnitra
      • Reward: 20,000 Crystogen Points and 7 Bomb Cores on subsequent trips.
      • Stone : Archyite Steppe - Western Benchland
      • Mark: Archylte Steppe - Eastern Tors
      • Snow as Sentinel. He can be hurt. Equip him with damage reducing accessories. Keep the pressure on Ziritra or Snow will be hurt. If you try med / med / sen, zirnitra will damage Snow faster than you can fix.
      • Use only
        • rav / rav / sen
        • com / com / sen

      • Same setup as Mission 52.
      • Stone: Mah'habara - An Asylum from Light
      • Mark: Yaschas Massif - The Pass of Paddra
    • Mission 54: Gigantiaur
      • There are two ways to fight, wait until your team has reached maximun or, get lucky. Luck: get "Random Instant Chain" (Synthesis Ability) to kick in. It instantly staggers your opponent, then you pound him into the ground.
      • Lightning / Fang / Vanille. To enable "Random Instant Chain" equip
        • Light with Hauteclaire, the Hunter's Friend and an Energy Sash.
        • Fang with Kane's Lance, the Survivalist Catalog and a Speed Sash.
      • First shroud up. Each strike by your team has small chance of triggering the ability. If you set Light as Rav and call her "Army of One" ability, she hits 6 times. Still, at best you'll get killed 6 or 7 times before it works. Sometimes 20.
      • After you stagger him you can pound Com / Com / (Rav/Sab) or call the Eidolon.
      • Another method, have Snow spam Daze, Libra, Light cast enfire.

      • Sazh Blitz the middle Mark for maximum total damage. Deprotect. Administer Painkillers when necessary.
      • Keep Haste on everyone.
      • Because of time, use Renew instead of med.
    • Mission 62: Raktavija
      • All damage from these guys is magic. Equip 9 Witch Bracelets* and one Gengi Glove on Fang. She also needs Kane's Lance.
      • Shroud up. There is two of them. Focus on one at a time. Sab / Sab / Sab to cast Slow and Imperil as quickly as possible. Then Rav / Rav /Rav until staggered. Sab / Rav / Rav to put and hold Deprotect while the chain guage builds to max.
